Writing this bio has got me giving myself the side-eye.
TYPICAL ME, TYPICAL ME
I’ve been writing professionally since 1996, during which time I’ve published work about social media celebrity for Jezebel; female jockeys, cuddle parties, gentrification, and much more for the East Bay Express; cocktails for Oakland magazine; music for Creative Loafing Tampa (then the Weekly Planet) and others; and fashion and style for Shojo Beat. I am the former editor-in-chief of the late, great Bay Area arts-and-culture quarterly Kitchen Sink, to which I contributed short fiction, essays about rock musicals and my sex life, and a large portion of blood, sweat, tears, and love.
Raised on Long Island and softened by the South, I’ve made my home in Oakland, California, since 2001, where I live with my grumpy spouse and our jerk of a dog. By day I raise money for the most prestigious public university in the world; by night (and early morning) I volunteer for the mighty KALX, grapple with writing whatever I’m into at the moment, and try not to grow old too gracelessly.
